The Art of Changing the Brain - A Faculty Book Study, Winter 2018

Going Deep:
A Faculty Book Study - Winter 2018

The Art of Changing the Brain:
enriching the practice of teaching by exploring the biology of learning

Facilitator: Miriam Carey

James. E. Zull is Professor of Biology, Biochemistry, and Cognitive Science at Case Western Reserve University.  He is also Founding Director Emeritus of the University Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Education.  In his own words, the art of changing the brain is what teaching is all about.  “Inevitably I realized that if a teacher has any success at all, she has produced physical change in her student’s brain.  Teaching is the art of changing the brain.” (2002, p.5)  By understanding more about how the brain works and learns, we can more critically examine our traditional modes of teaching and other approaches which might facilitate greater learning for our students.

Join faculty colleagues in conversation about how neuroscience can inform our teaching and learning practices.

Registration is limited to 10 participants, each of whom will receive a copy of The Art of Changing the Brain by James E. Zull (2002).
