Dialogue Series: Failure in Teaching and Learning

The demands of assessing for grades that allow students to pass into the next series of courses necessarily limits our use of failure as a learning tool.  Or does it?

We all know that a primary means of learning is failing and trying again until success is achieved.  So how can we use risk-taking and failure productively in our efforts to help our students both learn and pass courses in their respective areas of study?  Additionally, what have we learned through our various failures as teachers?

Come and share your ideas about and experiences with failure with interested colleagues in this three part series which will conclude before Reading Break.  It will be offered again after Reading Break for those who are unable to make Wednesday mornings from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm, in room EL2360, on the following dates:
