Going Deep Book Study: Mad at School: Rhetorics of Mental Disability and Academic Life, Winter 2019

Going Deep Book Study: Mad at School: Rhetorics of Mental Disability and Academic Life, Winter 2019

Author: Margaret Price (2011)

acilitator: Andrea Phillipson

This book takes a Universal Design approach to neurodiversity, asking us to interrogate taken-for-granted academic values such as presence, participation, and productivity. Price’s critical disability scholarship spans the theoretical and the practical, providing opportunities to reflect on representations of and assumptions about madness as well as tangible strategies for designing purposefully inclusive teaching, learning,
and research spaces.

Interested colleagues are invited to register for the book study. Registration is limited to 8 participants, each of whom will receive a paperback copy of Mad at School upon registration. If you would prefer an alternative format, please contact Andrea (aphillipson@mtroyal.ca or internal 6228).

Meeting times will be Wednesdays 10:00 - 11:30 am on the following dates:
January 23 & 30, February 13 & 27, Mar 13 & 27.
Registrants should plan to attend all sessions.
