Audio/Visual Assignments: Exploring Possibilities, Challenges, and Ways of Supporting Students in Representing Their Learning

Designing assignments that properly assess learning while remaining interesting for students (and faculty!) can be quite challenging. One possible approach is employing digital tools that can assist students in representing their learning in innovative ways. Podcasts, digital storytelling, infographics, and other types of audio/visual assignments can offer students creative options for sharing knowledge in non-traditional formats.

In this session, we will explore how to design assignments that take advantage of the affordances provided by audio/visual tools to assess student learning. We will also discuss strategies for supporting students in completing this task. Finally, we will identify key considerations for AV assignments, including issues related to academic rigour, student integrity, and technological requirements.
