(Online) Designing and Implementing Multimodal Assignments

Are you considering introducing or revising a multimodal (or audiovisual) assignment in your course? Interested in giving students a chance to share their knowledge through non-traditional formats such as podcasts, videos, story maps, or otherwise? Would you like to mark assignments that are actually interesting and creative? In this generative workshop, participants will consider key questions for meaningful and successful multimodal assignments from the perspectives of both faculty and students. With support from specialists in the Library, Student Learning Services, and ADC, participants will use an assessment lifecycle model to develop their own multimodal assignment idea, mapping out key components, milestones and opportunities for support across the planning, implementation, and assessment stages. This workshop is open to all faculty, regardless of their level of experience with using multimodal assignments in various formats.

By the end of this workshop, participants will have had the opportunity to:

  • Unpack what an AV assignment can look like
  • Make informed decisions about the lifecycle of the assignment
  • Identify services and supports that can help instructors and students along the way
