(Online) Brave Conversations: Season 2, Session 3: Leading (Your Way) in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

Scholars and students interested in pursuing a career in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning often struggle to find their place in the field. It can also be challenging to determine how their leadership style(s) can best fit in the  diverse collection of disciplines, methodologies, publishing opportunities, and local contexts that exist in SOTL. Sometimes figuring out who you are as an SOTL scholar can seem overwhelming. Dr. Mills Kelly has been active in the field for more than 25 years and in addition to his own scholarship has held several different leadership roles in SOTL. In his talk he will lay out a framework that can help new and experienced SOTL scholars find their own place in the field.

Facilitators: Michelle Yeo (Mokakiiks Centre for SoTL, MRU)
and Erika Smith (Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning, University of Calgary)

Speaker: Mills Kelly, (affiliation TBA as he is retiring)

Mills Kelly is a professor of history at George Mason University (Virginia) and has been an SoTL practitioner since the late 1990s when he was a Pew National Fellow with the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. He has written widely on SoTL topics over the years and in 2019 was the president of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. He is currently working on a book on the history of SoTL in history teaching and learning.
